Local Knowledge: Collaroy's Pipes
The suburb is named for the SS Collaroy, a steamship that grounded here in 1881, and the beach it landed on has been fought over ever since. Coastal erosion is a long-running story on this seafront, and the 2016 storms that stripped sand off the beach forced evacuations along the strip.
That erosion history says something about the ground the suburb's drains sit in. Sand moves here, blown and washed, and it doesn't stay where it lands.
Wind-blown sand off the beachfront washes into gullies on seafront properties, working its way into drainage lines that were never designed to handle that much grit.
Fine sand settles fastest wherever a pipe already has a weak joint. A rod pushes past a sand blockage without clearing it; high-pressure water is what actually flushes the grit out.
Heritage buildings along the Pittwater Road shopping strip, like the 1938 Collaroy Cinema and the RSL-founded club in Arlington Hall, sit on some of the oldest plumbing runs in the suburb. Old doesn't mean fragile everywhere, but it does mean assuming what's underground isn't good enough; the footage has to confirm it.
It's not just homes and heritage buildings, either. Larger sites like Pittwater House Schools on the South Creek Road side and the aged-care accommodation on the beachfront both run drainage systems built for higher daily use than a typical house, and a blockage there affects a lot more people at once.

What We're Clearing on This Stretch Lately
Sand-choked lines are the most common call this year, and they follow a pattern once you know what to look for.
A slow drain in a beachfront unit near the seafront strip is usually sand working its way in from outside. A slow drain further up the rise toward the Plateau is more often a root or a silted stormwater run.
Both look the same to a homeowner: water taking longer to clear than it used to. We camera every job rather than assume which one it is, because jetting a root-affected line and relining a sand-choked one are two different jobs with two different prices.

The Services Collaroy Calls Us For
- Drain cleaning: high-pressure water flushes out sand and grit before it sets hard in the line.
- CCTV drain inspection: shows us the real cause, so the number we give matches the job.
- Blocked drain repair: for joints that have opened up and are letting sand and silt in.
- Blocked stormwater: for pits that surcharge when a storm follows dry, sand-choked weather.
- Blocked sewer: the fix when the problem's in the main run, not just a single branch.

What Goes Wrong in Collaroy Drains
Three more patterns show up regularly on this stretch.
- Stormwater overload. Heavy downpours over the Narrabeen Lagoon catchment surcharge stormwater lines fast, especially where sand has already narrowed the pits. Our blocked stormwater service gets the pit shifting water again and repairs whatever the surge damaged.
- Tree root intrusion. Older residential streets on the rise behind the beach have established gardens whose roots find their way into ageing joints. Blocked drain repair removes the root and repairs the joint, so it isn't back in six months.
- Slope drainage. Where the ground flattens out near the foreshore, drainage runs from higher streets can silt up rather than draining away cleanly. Drain cleaning keeps that flow moving.

Emergency
Drain Emergency in Collaroy?
Stop and call if you see any of this: sewage pooling at an outdoor gully, several fixtures playing up at once, a toilet that won't flush properly.
The same east-coast storms that strip sand off this beach are usually what tip an old drain over the edge too.
- A gully trap that won't drain, water just sitting in it
- More than one drain playing up in the same window
- A toilet or shower that's getting slower by the day
- Sewage odour near an outdoor drain once the rain clears
- One fixture gurgling whenever another one's used
Whoever answers the phone is a licensed plumber, any hour, any day.
Minutes Away, and Worth the Call
This beach gets treated as part of our own patch, visited on the same swing through Newport and the wider Northern Beaches Council area.
Knowing the pattern in advance, sand versus something else, means a quicker read on the job, whether it's a unit right on the sand or a place further up toward the rise.
Master Plumber accreditation stands behind that diagnosis, backed by a combined three and a half decades of hands-on experience across the team. It matters on a coast rebuilt and renovated as often as this one, where the pipe under a newer home can still be decades older than the house itself.

Our Process, Kept Simple
- Walk us through it. One call and we're already moving.
- The camera rules it out or in. Sand, roots or a joint, we see it before quoting.
- Number first, tools after. Work starts only once you've said go.
- Proof on the screen. The after footage speaks for itself, no need to trust us blind.

Common questions
Blocked Drain FAQs
Is there a discount for pensioners or seniors?
We do, 10% off whatever the job costs. Combine it with the free call-out and the final bill shrinks before a single tool's out of the van.
Do I get proof the blockage is actually gone?
Always. Before-and-after footage goes to you directly, so the cause and the fix are both there to see, not just something we tell you happened.
Is Collaroy outside your standard call-out area?
Not a cent more. Coming out to inspect costs nothing wherever you're calling from on our patch.
How fast can you get to Collaroy?
Thirty minutes from your call, guaranteed. This stretch of coast is a short run from our Newport patch.
What happens if the same drain blocks again after you've fixed it?
It runs for the life of the job, with no expiry. If our fix fails, the return visit costs you nothing.
How local are you, really?
Genuinely local. Collaroy is a fixture on our weekly Newport rounds, not somewhere we stretch to occasionally, so the crew already has a good read on sand-choked versus root-affected before the camera confirms it.
